Healthy Eyes

“When you’re seeing well and have no irritation, it’s easy to forget about going to the eye doctor,” says Pamela Lowe, OD, FAAO. But preventing eye disease is so important. Often, if you wait until you notice a problem, it can be too late. Luckily, there are plenty of simple things you can do each day to keep your sight in tip-top shape.

By eating certain foods it may help maintain your eye sight. Eat Leafy Greens, Dark Berries and Cold-Water Fish. Some think eating carrots helps improve our vision and some people believe that it is an old wives’ tale. But, don’t discount the power of other fruits and veggies. Dark leafy greens like spinach, kale and brussels sprouts, as well as dark berries, like blueberries and blackberries, are rich in lutein, a type of carotenoid that protects against macular degeneration, the leading cause of vision loss in people over 60. Foods rich in omega-3s, like walnuts and fresh cold-water fish, have been found to reduce inflammation in the blood vessels of the eye.

Research suggests that antioxidants and other important nutrients may reduce your risk of cataracts and macular degeneration. Specific antioxidants can have additional benefits as well; for example, vitamin A protects against blindness, and vitamin C may play a role in preventing or alleviating glaucoma. Omega-3 essential fatty acids appear to help the eye in a variety of ways, from alleviating symptoms of dry eye syndrome to guarding against macular damage.

Our CHF formula #87 Bright Eye is wonderful for those who are having trouble with their eyes. It consists of 40% Triphala specifically for the eye health and regeneration. It also contains 80 mg of eye bright which is known to be a powerful herb that can give rapid relief from redness, swelling and visual disturbances. CHF #87 also contains 300 mg of bilberry extract and 1.5 mg of Lutein. Bilberry Extract is a concentration of anthocyanosides that’s 100 times higher than the level found in fresh fruit. It may help to strengthen collagen structures in the eyes, reinforces the retina and decreases capillary permeability. Lutein, a powerful carotenoid is found in high concentration in parts of the eye, especially the retina. These antioxidants help protect the eye from free radical damage. Lycopene and other important natural antioxidants are contained in our eye formula CHF #87 Bright Eye.

Orange, also known as Citrus sinensis, belongs to the Rutaceae family. The fruit comes from a small grayish-brown bark tree, which is almost similar to a shrub. Its branches grow to a regular hemisphere shape and oval-shaped foliage that sprouts to at least three to four inches. Its flowers are distinguished by its aromatic characteristic and the circular fruit is rougher and darker in comparison to other varieties of citrus.

Orange essential oil is commonly used as an added flavoring to beverages, sweet meats, chocolates, biscuits, and baking goods. Many people use it as a room fresheners, deodorants, soaps, body lotions and creams. It can also promote a feeling of happiness and warmth when used in aromatherapy.
