SAMe is a naturally occurring molecule found in all living cells and supports a lot of chemical functions necessary for normal brain activity and may help with or help to prevent other health problems. A molecule derived from the amino acid methionine is found in every living cell and plays a central role in cellular functions.
Clinical trials performed by the National Institute of Mental Health and Harvard Medical School have come to the same conclusion that SAMe has potential usefulness for depression and may help with anxiety. Because of its strong safety record, SAMe could be part of any regimen for brain health, particularly when depression may be an issue. Experts have known for more than a decade that severely reduced brain levels of SAMe are directly linked to Alzheimer’s disease. More recent research reveals a correlation between levels of SAMe in the brain and Parkinson’s disease. During research they have discovered that SAMe may also be beneficial for arthritis defense. A study conducted by the US Department of Health and Human Services confirmed its power to not only sustain mood, but also help to optimize joint function. Trials have shown reduced pain, swelling, and stiffness in individuals with osteoarthritis. Scientists have even found SAMe to be an effective mild pain killer that may reduce morning stiffness, pain at rest, pain in motion, swelling and limited range of motion in arthritic joints. SAMe may be used to help with optimal liver functions and fight against liver disease. It may also be beneficial in the following problems: Heart disease, tendonitis, chronic back pain, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, and ADHD. There are a few people who should not take SAMe. People whom have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder should not take SAMe because it is possible to turn the depression to mania. Pregnant or breast feeding woman should avoid only because there is not enough information available.
