What are Canker Sores?
Canker sores are shallow, painful sores on the inside of the lips, the inside of the cheeks, or on the gums. They begin as small, reddish swellings. Then they burst and the ruptured sores are covered with a white or yellow membrane. The edges of the sores are still red and look like a painful red halo. Without treatments, canker sores (medically: aphthous ulcers) heal in two to three weeks.
What causes Canker Sores?
Canker sores can run in families. They may also be linked to problems with the body’s immune defense system. Canker sores can be triggered by emotional stress, dietary deficiencies, menstrual periods and/or hormonal changes.
What is Propolis?
In recent years, much scientific research has gone into the amazing health-enhancing benefits of honeybee propolis, a completely natural substance which benefits the human immune system. The major benefit of propolis is that it is strongly antiseptic and antiviral; bees make it to seal their hives and protect them from disease. It works. Scientists claim that bees keep their hives more sterile than hospital operating theatres, because of propolis. To make propolis, bees harvest resinous sap from selected trees.
What is L-lysine?
L-lysine is an essential amino acid, which means that is essential to human health but cannot be manufactured by the body. For this reason, lysine must be obtained by food. Amino acids are the building blocks for protein. L-lysine can be used to treat mouth lesions. Taking L-lysine can speed recovery time and reduce the chances of another breakout. The University of Maryland at Baltimore states that “L-lysine is important for proper growth and it plays an essential role in the production of carnitine, a nutrient responsible for converting fatty acids in to energy and helping to lower cholesterol.”
