An ancient Middle Eastern fruit that is relatively new to this country, the pomegranate is a pleasant tasting fruit-but better yet-it contains Vitamin C, folic acid, phytonutrients and anthocyanins. It also is a good source of Vitamin B, panthothenic acid, potassium and antioxidant polyphenols. Pomegranate extract (which has no sugar, calories, or additives) is combined with ellagic acid in this formula.
Pomegranate may help to maintain healthy cardiovascular functions, cholesterol levels, blood vessels and healthy arteries during the aging process.
Ellagic acid is a naturally occurring polyphenolic constituent found in 46 different fruits and nuts like pomegranates. It is a very strong antioxidant and is a potent anti-carcinogen.
The University of Wisconsin-Madison states that “Pomegranate fruit continues to show great promise,” says Mukhtar, professor of dermatology at the School of Medicine and Public Health and as a member of the Carbone Cancer Center. “We have earlier shown that pomegranate fruit contains very powerful skin and prostate cancer fighting agents. These recent findings expand the possible health benefits of the fruit to the leading cause of cancer death in the country and worldwide: Lung Cancer.”
