At The Country Health Clinic we have taken Rhodiola/Gaba and combined it with Ashwagandha and other herbs. We have created a supplement that combines these herbs which are great adaptogens. Adaptogens are natural plant substances that increase the body’s non-specific resistance and normalize the functions of the body. They have long been known as a potent adaptogens. They may be helpful in assisting the body with abnormal cell growth, blood pressure, depression, anxiety, stress and many other nervous disorders. Ashwagandha: has strong adaptogenic properties that may provide several benefits for individuals that have compromised health due to extreme stress exposure. Its benefits may include stress resilience, supporting immune response, regulating sleep cycle, supporting healthy thyroid function and protecting against exhaustion of the nervous system. It has also been shown that it may be beneficial in supporting proper mood regulation and restoring a sense of calmness under stress. Its mostly valued for its thyroid modulating, neuroprotective, antianxiety, antidepressant and anti-inflammatory properties which may help with joint pain. It has shown incredible results for lowering cortisol levels and balancing thyroid hormones. In a 2009 study published in the PLOS One, ashwagandha was shown to be comparable to common pharmaceutical drugs lorazepam and imipramine, without the side effects. Another major ashwagandha benefit is that there may be no or minimal adverse reactions when taking it, compared to anti-anxiety medications that may cause drowsiness, insomnia, loss of sexual desire and increased appetite, among other side effects.

GABA: or gamma-aminobutyric acid, is the most important and widespread inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain. GABA may be able to induce relaxation, analgesia, and sleep. Several neurological disorders, such as epilepsy, sleep disorders, and Parkinson’s disease are affected by this neurotransmitter. This neurotransmitter is made in the brain from the amino acid glutamate with the aid of vitamin B6.

Rhodiola: may strengthen the nervous system, fight depression, enhance immunity, elevate the capacity for exercise, enhance memory, aid weight reduction, increase sexual function and improve energy levels. Many other benefits may include its ability to improve hearing, to regulate blood sugar levels for diabetics and protect the liver from environmental toxins. Rhodiola has been shown to shorten recovery time after prolonged workouts, to increase attention span, memory, strength, and anti-toxic action. Rhodiola rosea extract may increase the level of enzymes, RNA, and proteins important to muscle recovery after exhaustive exercise. It may also stimulate muscle energy status, glycogen synthesis in muscles and liver, muscle protein synthesis and anabolic activity.

L-Theanine: is an amino acid found abundantly in green tea. It may improve stress perception and resilience. It may increase alpha brain wave activity, which is critical for increasing attention and promoting a sense of relaxation. L-Theanine has also been shown to have a protective effect for nerve cells and may reduce excitatory activity in the brain.

Phosphatidylserine: is a phospholipid that is found in high concentrations in the brain. It may help reduce stress-induced excretion of cortisol during times of high stress (physical, emotional, mental, etc.). Phosphatidylserine may reduce the cortisol response to overtraining, resulting in a reduction in perceived muscle soreness and improvement in athletic performance.

Eleuthero Root Extract: is widely used to improve general health, support memory and endurance. In addition to its ability to improve stress resilience and fight fatigue, it may exhibit immune supporting effects. Eleuthero may also improve performance in runners.

Suggested use of essential oils

Mix one or two drops of desired essential oil to a small amount of a carrier oil such as coconut oil, jojoba oil or sweet almond oil. For general use, the oils can be applied to the bottom of feet and/or painful areas. If burning occurs do not wash area with water, but instead add more carrier oil. To prevent contamination of oil, do not touch top of bottle to any part of the body.
